Jeezy is speaking candidly about the personal growth that came following his divorce from TV personality Jeannie Mai.
In a new interview, the Atlanta rap icon opened up about the lessons he’s gained while navigating the highly public split.
The rapper, born Jay Jenkins, filed for divorce in September 2023 after two years of marriage. While the breakup sparked headlines, Jeezy says he has no regrets when it came to the marriage.
When as what he did learn, he says, “I learned that I was a great husband. I got a beautiful daughter out of the saturation. I learned a lot about myself. There’s things that I need to continue to work on.”
Jeezy explained that the process pushed him toward self-reflection and emotional accountability—areas he admits he hadn’t fully engaged with earlier in life. “I was selfish in my prior life, and I think just going forward in life- it just taught me how to give someone else grace and actually listen to understand rather than just to listen to reply.”
He continues, “when you’re sharing a life with someone- this is a partnership. I never had to compromise. It taught me a lot about what compromise is like.”
Despite the public tension, especially surrounding custody and communication issues, Jeezy made it clear he’s committed to prioritizing their daughter, Monaco. He emphasized that fatherhood has become his grounding force throughout the ordeal.
“At the end of the day, my daughter is what matters most,” he said. “Everything I do, every decision I make, she’s at the center of it.”
Jeezy also noted that the journey has reshaped his perspective on relationships, boundaries, and personal peace. “Healing is a process, not a moment,” he said. “And peace is something you have to work for.”
While the divorce is still unfolding legally, Jeezy says he’s focused on growth, emotional maturity, and moving forward with clarity.
“I learned that no matter what happens, you can choose how you respond,” he shared. “And I’m choosing growth.”
