Jason Lee Thinks Drake Deserved To Get Humbled By Kendrick Lamar

The rap battle between Kendrick Lamar and Drake continues to be discussed two years after it occurred; however, media mogul Jason Lee believes the 6 God deserved to be humbled by Kung Fu Kenny in a new interview.

During a candid appearance on Won of One: A PLLRS Podcast, Lee connected Kendrick’s public dismantling of Drake to a personal experience that permanently changed how he viewed the Toronto superstar.

Released on May 27, the interview featured Lee reflecting on pivotal moments from his 20-year media career. He recalls an early friendship with Drake before either man reached celebrity status.

According to Lee, their relationship began during a much different era, before Drake became one of the world’s biggest rap artists and before Lee built influential entertainment platforms like Hollywood Unlocked and The Jason Lee Show.

Lee explained that the turning point came during an interaction at one of Michael Rubin’s celebrity-packed parties. He recalled approaching Drake casually and asking when he planned to appear on his show.

“I said something to him like, ‘When are you pulling up to the show,’ or something like that,” Lee said. “He said, ‘Aww, nigga, I ain’t never fucking with that shit.’”

For Lee, the response represented more than a rejected interview request. The comment appeared to symbolize how fame had altered Drake’s attitude toward people who knew him before superstardom. Although Lee’s disappointment remained obvious throughout the conversation.

That moment later shaped how he viewed Drake’s headline-dominating lyrical war with Kendrick Lamar.

“That humbling moment Kendrick put him through was necessary,” Lee admitted. “On a personal level, I was a little disappointed by the way that he acted. But, it gave me a little smirk when he went through what he went through.”

Lee’s remarks highlight how personal relationships still influence perspectives inside hip-hop culture. For him, Kendrick’s victory represented more than battle rap dominance.

It became a public reminder that fame can shift friendships, loyalty and perception within the music industry.
